Lytec 2010 Sneak Peek

PSS just spent the week with Mckesson in Alpharetta, Georgia, and boy do we have a lot to share with you. In addition to learning a great deal about EMR, the economic Stimulus (ARRA), and Lytec’s plan to help you get through the next 5 years of changes coming out of Washington, we managed to procure an early copy of Lytec 2010. So here it is, a no holds barred up close look at the new changes and improvements.

The installation procedure is very similar to Lytec 2009, except that Lytec is now distributed on a single DVD rather than (up to) 3 CDs, and the installation procedure includes SQL Server 2005 service pack 3 for Vista and Windows 7 compatibility. (Mckesson tells us that they will go through the process of certifying Lytec 2010 for Windows 7 once Lytec 2010 is officially released).

Before we even see the main screen for the first time, we get the idea that this is NOT going to be our Father’s Lytec 98. The progress bar has updated graphics which are much more indicative of the newer Windows 7 operating system than the Windows 98 operating system which was out the last time Lytec got a face lift.

Once the main screen comes up, we start to see what a completely new look this program has. The “File” menu option of days-gone-by has been replaced with an “Office 2007” styled “L” button. The help menu, which is the only one available when we first load the program, has the new “Ribbon” menu, which assigns Windows 7 style icons to each option, and makes it much easier to quickly locate your choices. If you’ve used Office 2007 or Windows 7 yet, you’ll regonize the easier to use and fluid look of the new ribbon menu style. We like it for several reasons that we’ll detail further in this article.
