Perhaps the biggest and most important improvement to Lytec 2010 would have to be speed. The program is not just faster, it is MUCH faster, and although we always prefer you put Lytec on newer computers, it ran just fine on our test laptop, which had a shameful 1.5Ghz mobile processor, and only 1.5GB of ram (kids, do not try this with your business critical applications at home). Some areas of the program (patients), when compared to Lytec 2009, were 40% faster. Some areas (charges and payments) were a full 100% faster, while even other areas (like appointments) were TEN TIMES faster (what used to take 10 seconds to bring up, now took 1). This speaks loudly to the quality reprogramming which took place to optimize the SQL engine. As developers, we can appreciate how hard this is, and yet as a Billing Service, we can truly appreciate how much this will improve our efficiency.
Lytec 2010 will run on Vista, and should be certified for Windows 7 shortly after release. Perhaps even more importantly, it will be officially supported AND take full advantage of Windows 2008 64 bit edition (as well as the 32 bit). This is important because 64 bit versions can deftly use MUCH more than the 3.5GB limit placed on 32 bit versions.
There’s more, like improved lock-screen security, new fields in custom reports, a more integrated encoder pro, but taken in whole, for the second year in a row, McKesson seems to have done a fantastic job on the new version. In this depressed economy, when most companies are reducing their investment in research and development, McKesson has actually stepped up and INCREASED their spending. It would seem there are some serious advantages to being one of the largest, and the oldest health care company in the free world. As a result, there will be great advantages to those who use Mckesson products, both now and in the years to come.
And while this last item isn’t a new feature, it’s such a dramatic development that we felt it was worth mentioning here as well. Mckesson has continued to impress us since purchasing the Lytec product with useful and substantial upgrades worth upgrading to. Now they’ve taken it a step further and have created a program to reward customer loyalty with never before seen discounts in the form of their new price assurance program. In most cases you can add all of the upgrades and major version releases for the next 5 years to your Lytec 2010 purchase for less then the price of one new purchase. This means you can be ready today for ANSI 5010, and ICD10. What’s more, PSS has created some new programs to help make sure our clients are ready for whatever comes down the pike. We are very excited about the future, and hope you are too!
