The Holiday season is
upon us. It is a time for traveling in bumper-to-bumper traffic to
those relatives whom you hardly ever see, to enjoy a meal at an over-crowded
table, with food you really do not like. Or it’s a time for
staying at home and still over-eating with the ones you love and welcoming
the guests who had to travel in that bumper-to-bumper traffic. And
let’s not forget those wonderful after-Thanksgiving sales! Oh
joy! While you stand in a 4 hour line waiting for the store to open,
only to then to stand for another 3 to 4 hours to check out. Oh! We
can feel the Holiday spirit coming over us now!

We really are looking forward to the holidays and all the fun and
excitement they bring. And we here at Stephens & Associates especially
wish you, your colleagues and family members an outstanding and, if
you travel, a safe Thanksgiving.
Many of our clients have decided to
upgrade their offices with high-speed Internet access. This includes
Internet technologies such as DSL, Cable Internet, and Line of Sight
Wireless access. There are some offices, however, which have decided
not to get Internet access in their offices, or who have decided to
stick with dialup access. While Stephens & Associates understands
well the “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it”
mentality, we feel there are many advantages to having high-speed
Internet access which your office may be missing out on.
Here are just a few:
1. Support and Training: Stephens & Associates
offers our support and training services over your high-speed Internet
connection. This means that any time you have a support or training
issue, we can view your computer over the high speed internet connection
and help you to solve the problem, or train you and your staff on
that particular issue by showing you, or seeing the problem ourselves.
Not only do we NOT charge any more to support you over the high-speed
connection, but it usually takes less than HALF the time as walking
you through the dozens of screens which may be involved. Since S&A
charges for our training and support by the hour, this usually represents
vast savings over the old fashioned way, and allows us to have problems
solved in a MUCH more timely fashion.
2. Product Updates: Unfortunately, as we add
features and functionality to our programs, they become larger in
size. Lytec’s service pack downloads have been, at times, more
than 80MB in size! Sometimes, your office really cannot afford to
wait for a CD to be sent out, and a dialup Internet connection simply
does not “cut the mustard” anymore when it comes to downloading
files.
3. Eligibility and Claims Status: Many Insurance
carriers, such as Blue Cross of CA and Blue Shield of CA, now offer
web based Patient Eligibility and Claim Status Verification. This
is much faster and reliable than dialup! Forget those dropped calls!
4. A look toward the future: While currently,
very few carriers will accept their claims over the Internet, we are
seeing an impetus to move to a more robust method to transfer claim
files, with THIN’s recent problems with their dialup system
as a prime example. Stephens & Associates is already in the process
of developing many advanced capabilities that will allow us to be
at the forefront of this technology, just as we were at the forefront
of the HIPAA claim formats. In addition, many other features, which
we are planning for Validator 6, such as the ability to automatically
update the software, rely on your ability to have a robust Internet
connection.
Lytec 2006 Edition Is Here!
Lytec 2006 Edition of Lytec Practice
Management System has been released. It has built upon the Lytec 2005
Edition, which was an outstanding software release, loaded with many
money-saving features such as the Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA)
giving the ability to post payments from carriers directly back into
the patient accounts. We are pleased to tell you Lytec 2006 has surpassed
Lytec 2005. It has all the prior features of Lytec 2005 but many more
new and exciting ones. We will have a full list and explanation of
