ANSI 5010 Changes and how they will affect your practice
I’m sure by now you’ve heard about the changes coming next year to the way your practice will submit electronic claims. The change is an upgrade in the format you submit in currently to the new ANSI v5010 format. These changes won’t do any thing to affect the way your practice operates on a day to day basis, but there are a couple of important things you need to be aware of.
A timeline of the implementation schedule:
- Jan 1, 2011 - Testing can begin for ANSI v5010 electronic claims and carriers should be ready to accept test claims in the new format
- April, 2011 - PSS will begin testing of ANSI v5010 electronic claims
- Dec 31, 2011 – Testing of ANSI v5010 must be complete
- Jan 1, 2012 – All electronic claims must be submitted with ANSI vs5010 format
- Oct 1, 2013 – Claims must use ICD-10 codes for medical diagnosis and inpatient procedures
What you need to do to be prepared:
- Update your software – Lytec has run several promotions in an effort to help physicians get current with their practice management software. Any purchase now will include the 2011 release for free, which will include necessary changes to prepare for the ANSI v5010 submissions.
- If you are a Validator user, read the newsletters PSS publishes and keep informed as we complete the testing next year and release new eclaim forms to handle the ANSI v5010 required changes.
- If you do not use the Validator and instead submit through another clearing house, you will need to contact them for an updated form compliant with the ANSI v5010 changes
If you’d like to know more about the specifics of the changes you can find a more detailed explanation here

We would like to hear from you about improvements to Validator
Our development team has been hard at work on a new version of Validator. It’s still too early to talk about a release date, but I can tell you there will be some exciting new features added to the Validator6. However no matter how excited we are about the new features in Validator there will always be clients who wished we had added something additional. We have always sought to make our products to meet the needs of our clients, and want Validator6 to be a shining example of that policy.
That being said we want to hear from YOU. You use Validator5 on a daily basis, what things have you thought about over the years that would make your life easier. What idea has popped in to your head as you thought “you know, it would be great if….”. Let us know, and you might just have your wish come true with the new Validator6 when it’s released. Please send all comments and ideas to info@emailpss.com
Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Billflash Extends Promotional Offer
Billflash is another of those companies whom we have used ourselves (with our in house billing service) before recommending them to our clients. Billflash allows you to electronically upload your statements and have them professionally printed, folded and mailed with a return envelope for considerably less than it would cost you to do it yourself. With Billflash, you can review your statements before sending them out, adding individual notes and excluding individual bills before approving the batch. It takes less than 5 minutes to process statements, works with all versions of Lytec, and only costs you 67 cents a statement, which includes postage, paper, ink, labor, and a return envelope. The value simply cannot be beat. Let us show you how easy Billflash is. There is no obligation, no contract, and for a limited time only, no monthly fee. All you pay for is the statements you send! |
PSS Presents ERA Auto Posting made Easy!
Many of you already know that insurance carriers are offering payment information in a new format called Electronic Remittance Advice (or “ERA”). This is a direct replacement for the paper EOBs that we are all used to getting in the mail with our checks.
One of the main advantages to this electronic version of an EOB (other than saving the insurance company in postage), is that the file can be used to automatically post payments into your Lytec system. Over the years many of our clients have expressed concerns over auto-posting their ERA files, mainly because they did not trust the auto posting process. From Lytec 2005 to 2009, the process was an “all or nothing” blind hope proposition. You could post the entire remittance file, or none of it at all, and you hoped the payments were applied correctly. In many cases, they weren’t. In Lytec 2010, you had to install and maintain this outside program, called Revenue Management, which required an update every 2 weeks, and which often times did not work properly either. While Revenue Management brought us improvements such as the ability to see what we were going to post, and the ability to post portions of an EOB, it was clear that it was a program written for another system that was ported to Lytec, and fell short. It was plagued with problems such as a complete inability to post, not posting to inventory codes, and not removing posted ERA files from the list after they were posted. This was a great idea, but poorly executed.
After listening carefully to you, our clients, and in coordination with the medical billing staff here at PSS, we have decided to do something about this problem. We have been hard at work for the last few months creating an ERA Auto posting solution that works for you. It is not ready to be released yet, but we were so excited about it, we felt we had to give you a sneak peek in to what was coming!
